Hans Rosling-online star of data visualization
The Economist has an interesting article about data visualization guru Hans Rosling. In this article Dr Rosling points out that reluctance of big institutions to share the data, and that the things are changing with time but at a slow pace.Dr Rosling’s mesmerising graphics have been impressing audiences on the international lecture circuit, from the TED conferences to the World Economic Forum at Davos. Instead of bar charts and histograms, Dr Rosling uses Lego bricks, IKEA boxes and data-visualisation software developed by his Gapminder Foundation to transform reams of economic and public-health data into gripping stories.
See the Hans Rosling’s latest review of the past 200 years and 200 countries in 4 minutes, which is one of the best data visualizations I have ever come across. In following video through his data visualization skills Dr Rosling is trying to portray some harsh realities of the world in a convincing way. They sound simple enough for every type of audience. Rosling’s work demonstrates the power of data visualization techniques and how communicating the complex issues such as life expectancy and health standards can be done in simple and intuitive way.
